Yet another fundamentally different approach to taking children from A to B (different to a plastic-mould child-seat or top-tube mounted mini-saddle) is the cargo bike/trike – a giant box fixed to the frame. I’ve seen both wood and fabric-based versions; the former is clearly sturdier but heavier, whilst the latter nips along a little quicker.
Not that weight matters all that much – after all, you’re not racing these things. You just need to get from A to B and back again, with stuff that would be too heavy to carry.
Pictured above is Double Dutch Bikes’ Taylor, and below the Dillon. They also do them in black, if you don’t like cyan. Nice of them, eh?
Sometimes three wheels are better than two. Next time you have the urge to move, say, an Acme-made anvil by pedal power and don't want to tip over, look no further than the Dillon.
