We are delighted to welcome Toddlebike to the Product Pages of Cyclorama.net
Though, technically, not a ‘bike’ at all if we’re going to be pedantic, but ‘Toddlequadricycle‘ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!
Whatever you’d like to call it, if you know any very young children I urge you to take a good hard look at the ‘toy’ in the pictures. Push aside those first impressions – there’s much more to it than meets the eye. It might look like a toy but this inexpensive, injection-moulded ride-on, ‘pre-balance’ bike is revolutionary. It has certainly transformed the lives – young and old – of the people with whom it has come into contact. Yes, transformed.
Until now, if you were under the age of four there wasn’t a decent machine out there for you. Traditional sit-on toys are heavy, slow and cumbersome, and quite unsuitable for use on varied terrain. Balance bikes, (popularised by Like-A-Bike with their lovely wooden machines and now made by every bike company under the sun) with which we are surely all now familiar, teach little ones to balance on two wheels without the extra complication of pedals. Brilliant though they are, for someone who is only just learning to walk they are way too difficult to learn. And usually too big.
The Toddlebike neatly fills the gap between first steps and first balance bike.
‘So what?’ I hear you cry.
Well, anyone who has tried to get anywhere with a toddler will know the challenges. You don’t want to travel at their walking speed – you’d never get anywhere – but you also don’t want them to spend every waking hour in a buggy.

This neat, cheap little machine allows toddlers to transport themselves at a speed which is compatible with a walking adult and gives them much greater range than they could hope to achieve on their two wee legs. And when they do eventually get tired it’s light enough that it won’t tip the buggy over when you hang it on the handlebar. It’s so light in fact that a toddler can carry it.
It is a genuine human-powered transport solution. In-doors or out. Waterproof, all-terrain, light-weight, sure-footed, durable (they come with a three year warranty!) and affordable. Some manufacturers of adult bikes could learn a thing or two….
Though they’ve been available in some European countries for many years this is the first time they’ve been widely available in the UK. Jo Hockley, Toddlebike’s UK distributor and champion explains it in more detail on Toddlebike’s Cyclorama pages.
We’ve got one to test – look out for the upcoming review.
