We’d like to bring to your attention an admirable project of which Cyclorama is a big fan. Gloucestershire based Charlotte’s Tandems has a fleet of assorted tandems which it loans out to pairs of bicyclists. The scheme allows folk who cannot ride a solo machine to experience the joy of riding as a tandem stoker without the huge financial outlay usually associated with ownership of machines of this type.
Charlotte’s tandems goes one step further than any tandem rentalists we know of – use of the bikes is absolutely free. The tandems are available to blind or otherwise disabled individuals, families with children or adults who never learned to ride a bike. The ever growing fleet includes an assortment of different styles and sizes so there should be something for everyone. There isn’t a whole lot of marketing money available and as a result take-up has been a little less than optimal in recent months so please spread the word if you know someone who might appreciate the opportunity to ride a good quality tandem.
Donations of machines are very gratefully received. If you have a tandem languishing at the back of your shed there can be no greener pasture than Charlotte’s for your old steed.
