Retailer Profile:
Practical Cycles
Practical Cycles has a shop staff of one - me! I have developed and continue to develop a good knowledege (mainly through hands-on experience) of cargo bikes, delivery bikes, work bikes and child transport bikes.
We always listen to the customer's needs first and then we will advise them what bikes and accessories best suit their needs. If there are a number of products that suit our customers' needs we will allow them to test them all, and advise them fairly if the decision is purely a financial one! We realise that buying a specialist bikes can be daunting, so we never try the hard sell. We want our customers to become disciples of the cargo bike, so that others can be converted by the enthusiasm their friends have for the cargo bike bought from Practical Cycles!
We were motivated to start Practical Cycles by a mixture of things. We visited some cities that have great bicycle culture such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Portland - Oregon, San Francisco, Seattle and Cambridge (we felt guilty about all those air miles, but we're putting that right now), and we were always balancing silly loads on bikes that were not made to balance silly loads on - it was a challange and it was fun, but not very Practical!
Today we have a comprehensive range of cargo bikes, child transportation bikes and delivery bikes borne out of our experience of riding them. Our range of demo cargo bikes is unrivalled here in the UK and we are proud to be the sole importer of the Madsen Cargo Bike - a great value cargo, delivery and child transporting bike. We also stock Carradice saddlebags and panniers amongst our selection of carriers and racks. We're as obsessed with bicycle luggage as some people are with shoes.
In the future, we'd like to increase our portfolio of cargo/child transport bikes. We'd also like to offer more wheel builds (especially with hub gears), more custom builds and more accessories - especially ones that allow carrying cargo or children. We might even expand the Practical ethos - perhaps to folding bikes.
Our mantra is simply that, "you can do more by bike and do even more by cargo bike" - so go on, we dare you!

We've chosen the visionary Practical Cycles to be featured on Cyclorama because of the enormous range of cargo bikes and carriers that they stock.
