Big BMX
From Big BMX
The Big BMX has been developed to withstand the rigours of city living. The timeless frame design makes this bike fun to ride whilst the increased size makes it more suitable for adults. The absence of multiple gears or suspension systems make the bike less vulnerable to accidental damage and ensures that it requires minimal technical maintenance. Mountain-bike wheels and tyres help to ensure that pot-holes, drain covers or low kerbs won't pinch the inner-tube or damage the rim. We've also acknowledged that many city bikes spend their days locked-up outside in public places, so the Big BMX uses corrosion-resistant anodised components without any "quick-release" parts.
Without front or rear suspension, no energy is lost into spring compressions as the rider pedals. This, combined with the light-weight rigid aluminium frame, means that a higher than expected "single-speed" gear ratio could be fitted as original equipment. The ride is surprisingly dynamic – you can make rapid progress across town enjoying the responsive handling or, if you’re feeling less energetic you can make the same journey effortlessly. We sometimes forget that bikes were popular for many decades before gears or suspension came along.
Regular cycling enthusiasts enjoy the great handling and the care-free nature of the bike. It also makes a great “pub bike".
It is quick and easy to set up your individual riding position. The design is ergonomically versatile because the handlebars have adjustable reach - they rise high above the head tube and can tilt fore and aft. Therefore, a natural upright riding position is more easily achieved. Furthermore, the saddle-height has more adjustment due to the extra long seat post and the low top-tube. Almost anyone can select a comfortable riding position. Comfort leads to improved control, confidence and overall enjoyment of the ride.
