Toucan Engineering Limited was formed in 2001 as a development company, specialising in the use of innovative design and recovered materials to create sustainable alternatives to traditional products. Toucan's principals have also provided consultancy and advisory services that link the public and voluntary sectors with potential small business suppliers and manufacturers offering products with demonstrable environmental, social, operational and cost advantages.

The 2Can Sociable cycle is unique in that it is the only product for which the company has decided to seek a financial partner to help it manufacture, promote and sell the 2can cycle in international markets.

Through its work with local authorities and its commitment to the environment, Toucan Engineering was already actively seeking development opportunities in the cycle manufacturing market when one of its founder directors – already a cycling fanatic – was introduced to sociable cycling.

The companionship, comfort and inclusiveness available from a sociable - compared with the isolation experienced on the back-seat of a tandem  - open up all kinds of possibilities, not only for hard-core cyclists and tourers but also to provide mobility, enjoyment, exercise and access for all ages and abilities.

Since adding the 2can cycle to its products, ongoing development and new design by Toucan has extensively and significantly improved manufacturability and ergonomics.

Despite progress in recent years, the UK is still lagging far behind mainland Europe in the provision of a cycling infrastructure and the development of a cycling culture.  The majority of Internet enquiries come from Europe and the USA and Toucan has established a ‘French connection to develop the first mainland European outlet.  In the UK, the 2Cans potential has been proved with all ability riders and carers.
